In the ancient Indian tradition of yoga, “Suśuptiḥ” (सुषुप्तिः) signifies the state of profound, dreamless sleep — a stage of consciousness where mental activity ceases, and only still awareness remains. Counted among the four states in the Mandukya Upanishad — jāgrat (wakefulness), svapna (dreaming), suśupti (deep sleep), and turīya (pure consciousness) — it symbolizes the body’s deepest restoration and the soul’s quiet return to source. Yogic wisdom teaches that through meditation, one may experience the serenity of Suśuptiḥ while fully awake — resting in silence amidst awareness itself.
